The sign on the door says “Greenwood Space Travel Supply Co.,” but it’s much more than that. In 2005, Teri—a veteran school teacher and published author—connected with renowned writer Dave Eggers and merged one of her ideas into a national 826 Seattle chapter, a nonprofit writing center that helps kids develop their creative and expository writing skills. Teri’s programs offer drop-in tutoring, evening and weekend writing workshops, and field trips that directly connect 826 Seattle with the public school system. The catch? None. All these classes are free. Seattle: Greenwood Space Travel Supply Co., the $15 pedicure at Pretty Nails on 85th Street.
